Action Research Studies in the Effective Application of Technology in the K-12 Music Classroom, Studio, or Rehearsal Hall
Posted by: awillis2 in ReflectionsTI:ME is pleased to announce an open call to all its members who are interested in completing an action research project with primary or secondary students involving music and technology. The primary purpose of this funded project is to add to the growing body of literature addressing the application of music technology to the enhancement of music learning. Of special interest are the uses of electronic musical instruments, MIDI sequencing, music notation software, computer-assisted instruction, multimedia and digitized media, including digital recording, and/or Internet communications in developing profiles of “best practice.” Teachers who work daily with students to learn music with the aid of such technologies are encouraged to submit an action research proposal. This project, sponsored by TI:ME, has been funded by a generous grant from the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM).
A helpful, specially developed Action Research Tutorial will be available on the TI:ME web site to facilitate the development of a research proposal. Proposal budgets may specify an amount up to a total of $1,750. It is anticipated that teacher-researchers will be paid a maximum stipend of $750 with the balance of the grant expenses devoted to essential resources (i.e., hardware, software, instruments, etc.).
The successful applicants will work with a University mentor in the details of research execution and reporting. Results of the study will be posted on the TI:ME website. The timeline for these projects will begin in January 2009 and a written report of the completed project will be due no later than May 31, 2010. Proposals will be accepted online via the TI:ME web site between December 1 and December 15, 2009.
Deadline for proposals: December 15, 2009. More details are available on the TI:ME web site.

Wow. This post looks great. Music and technology work hand-in-hand; they are interrelated and inseparable. In order to make music education in a studio more fun and enjoyable, music teachers together with the studio managers have to be more creative, inventive and innovative in many different ways. On a personal note, with the kind of learners we have right now, we have to make extra efforts in providing them with better activities and classes that can take them away from boredom and anxiety. However, it takes a lot of responsibility and efforts to integrate technology into the learning process. As their mentors, we need to know how to properly administer each innovative activity to our students. Thus, this requires us to strictly screen and monitor each innovation that they will use and adopt. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and ideas that are useful to most music teachers and studio managers like us. Please keep on posting innovative and gainful studio management tips to help us out. Thanks again and more power to your endeavors. Til your next posts.
